Patrik Blenk, M.Sc. – Novel enzymes from phototrophic microorganisms

Phototrophic microorganisms have an extraordinarily complex metobolism and thus may serve as a comprehensive source for biocatalysts with exceptional properties.

We therefore used this resource to identify novel enzymes and characterize their properties for a technological application. Our main goal was to discover biocatalysts capable of synthesizing structurally complex substances, which are not or only hardly accessible via traditional chemical synthesis.
