Molecular Communication

Molecular communication (MC) enables message transmission via the exchange of information-carrying signal particles in environments where conventional communication concepts based on electromagnetic wave propagation fail. Although MC is widely used in natural communication systems, research into synthetic MC systems for engineering applications is at a very early stage.

In this project we are working with the Institute for Digital Transmission (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Schober), and the labs of Prof. Andreas Burkovski (Microbiology) and Prof. Dr. Heinrich Sticht (Bioinformatics) in an interdisciplinary team on the design, mathematical description and realization of innovative synthetic MC systems.
